Staying hydrated is incredibly important for your body and overall health. Sometimes it is hard to get in your daily water intake, so here’s some tasty ways to make it easier to drink more water. How much do you need? The Mayo Clinic and Institute of Medicine suggest that “an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly 3 litres (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day. The AI for women is 2.2 litres (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day”. With that said, it doesn’t necessarily have to be water, but water is the quickest and easiest way to stay hydrated. Water helps to flush toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to cells, among many other benefits like improving your skin condition and reducing the frequency of headaches.
I used to be a huge fan of Mio, those little ‘water enhancing’ bottles that come in a variety of flavours and colours and that you can bring anywhere. When I realized actually how bad they were for you (very processed, and loaded with chemical ingredients) I reverted back to the natural ways of actually enhancing water using natural ingredients. The possibilities are endless, and they are super refreshing in the summer-time. One of my favourites right now is lemon-mint water. So flavourful and satisfying. I love the lemon and mint combination because it’s so fresh tasting. Lemon water also helps if you are looking to lose weight! It is excellent for cleansing and great for detoxing your body. Loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants – you can’t go wrong. Plus, it tastes amazing and refreshing too!
I like to add chia seeds to beverages when I can, because they are so incredibly good for you. They are small, but mighty! (don’t under estimate these little seedy wonders). Chia seeds have more calcium in them than milk, more iron than spinach, more omega than salmon, more magnesium than broccoli, and are an excellent source of natural vitamins and minerals. They are gluten-free, and vegan friendly too. The benefits of chia seeds are endless! They are full of antioxidants, aid in weight loss, and provide you with energy. Drink to your health 🙂
One of my favourite Instagrammers, @fullyrawkristina has some colourful ideas that will not only make your water look great, but taste amazing while providing your body with vitamins and nutrients.
Other natural water enhancing flavours:
